Bread and Butter Pudding

This bread and butter pudding is a winner! You can serve it hot or cold with custard or a drizzle of fresh cream or ice-cream even.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ loaves Baker's Inn White Bread
  • Butter/ Margarine to spread
  • 5 bananas, sliced
  • 800 ml fresh milk
  • ½ cup fresh cream
  • 5 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla essence
  • 150g dark chocolate, grated/ finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp. castor sugar

Method

  1. Get your ingredients together. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Break eggs in separate bowl or jug. Add vanilla essence, milk and fresh cream.  Whisk until well combined and set aside.
  3. Trim off the crust on your slices of bread. Spread butter/ margarine on the bread slices. Lightly grease your casserole dish with margarine/butter.
  4. Cut each slice of bread into cubes or 4 triangles. Put the first layer of the bread into the prepared casserole dish. Lay some bananas then chocolate on top of the bread. Sprinkle 1 tbsp. sugar. Drizzle a bit of the egg mixture over this first layer. Repeat process until the bread, bananas and egg-milk mixture are finished. Stand for 10 minutes.
  5. Bake for 30 - 40 minutes or until a lovely golden brown colour forms. Your pudding is ready. Enjoy!
